Breast Cancer Survey
Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the UK and a leading cause of cancer-related death. Women aged 50 to 71 are automatically invited for a mammogram every three years, but many do not attend these screenings. Early detection through breast screening significantly improves treatment outcomes, yet uptake rates in mid and south Essex remain lower than ideal, with just over half of eligible women taking up the offer when invited.
To improve participation and address barriers, NHS Mid and South Essex is conducting a survey to better understand public attitudes, knowledge, and experiences relating to breast cancer screening.
Our objectives for this survey are:
- To increase awareness of the importance of breast cancer screening.
- To gather insights into the barriers preventing eligible women from attending breast screening appointments.
- To use the findings to inform strategies that encourage screening uptake across mid and south Essex.
